Martha Belle Whitehead

Sunday, December 21, 2025, with her children by her side, mom (Martha) took her final breath here on earth and her first breath in heaven. She fought a good fight till her body could not battle any longer. No more pain, no more cancer, no more demons that haunted her mind. No more 6:30pm phones calls, no more hugs for any of her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. She will be missed.

Martha, Mom, grandma, grand grandma or just nanny all names she was known by. Her favorites were grandma and great grandma.

Martha Belle Edwards Mullis Whitehead was born on February 25, 1943, in Marshville NC. The only daughter to Hoyle and Evelyn Edwards. She was the middle child of 5 all which preceded her in death. She moved to Charlotte in her mid-teens with her family. She held several jobs before marrying and having 3 children: Melondie (Ken), Shellie (Jeff) and Robert (TJ), She has 5 grandchildren Adam (Gretchen), Lauren, Darrell, Kyle, Chase and two great grandchildren Benjamin and Noelle.

She lived in Charlotte for many years until she moved to Oak Island where she remarried. She held many jobs and even had her own cleaning business. But she retired from Russells Restaurant after 20 years. After her retirement, she moved back to Charlotte and became a healthcare worker sitting and caring for older adults, doing this up until December 2023. This was a newfound work of love for her.

She had many hobbies: she loved cooking, especially baking. She also loved to fish and crochet, with many projects going to homeless shelters and hospitals. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. She participated in many of their functions and gatherings regularly until her health would no longer afford her to do so.

She will be missed by all her knew and loved her. Carry her legacy of hard work and caring by doing something good for someone in need.
