She was born to Charles Edgar Springs, Sr. and Lily Rose Lee Springs on August 30th, 1935. She was raised in Loris, SC with a great deal of time spent at North Myrtle Beach. After High School Mary Emma went on to graduate from Winthrop with a degree in Home Economics. Upon graduation she taught at Wampee High School. Soon thereafter she met and wed her husband Gibson Bradley Seymour. They married on June 4th, 1960 at the Citadel chapel in Charleston, SC on the day Bradley graduated. Together they had four children.
Mary Emma deeply loved God and the Church. She was among the first members of Sharon Baptist Church while it was still a mission. She was deeply involved in the workings of the church and caring for its members. Through her involvement she began keeping the babies during services. Mary Emma loved babies and worked at Sharon Baptist Weekday School for 30+ years until she retired.
Throughout her life Mary Emma enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening, all of her pets, playing cards, and spending time at the beach with her family. Most of all she loved anything she did with her family.
Mary Emma was a devoted mother and Mammama. She dedicated her life to proudly raising her four daughters and later being ever present in her granddaughters’ lives. She prioritized always being at dance recitals, gymnastics meets, sporting events, and ceremonies of all kinds. She was so so proud of her daughters and granddaughters and never hesitated to make sure they knew that. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her husband Gibson Bradley Seymour and her brother Charles Edgar Springs, Jr. She is survived by her four daughters, Rose Mary Seymour, Carol Lee Seymour, Ruth Seymour of Charlotte, NC and Kathryn (Kelly) Lewis of Wilmington, NC; four granddaughters Emma Glenn Lewis, Caroline Lewis Carne (Jacob), Diana Corbett Lewis, and Ruth Constance Lewis; as well as her precious pets Trevor (dog) and Ellie (cat).
