Mary Ellen Wright Hoen

Mary Wright Hoen, age 93, of Asheville and formerly of Charlotte passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at John F. Keever Solace.

She was born April 11, 1920 in Chester, South Carolina the daughter of the late William Arthur Wright and Nellie May Blanks. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Fritz Hoen and sister, Nell Norman.

Mrs. Hoen retired from the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s Department after serving as a Deputy Matron in the county jail and finally as a courtroom deputy. Prior to being a deputy she managed a school cafeteria for 14 years with Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. She was a member of the NC Sheriff’s Association and Fraternal Order of the Police, Lodge #9. Mary was a Charter Member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher of Primary Ace Children.

Surviving are her son, John Hoen and wife Janet Sue Hoen; grandchildren, John Louie Hoen and wife Teena and Gregory Scott Hoen and wife Pamela; great grandchild, Aaron James Hoen; and numerous other loving family members.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 4622 Nations Crossing Road, Charlotte, NC 28217.
