

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Joseph Thompson, Jr., who left this world on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on July 27, 1962, in Brooklyn, NY, Matthew lived a life marked by love, humor, and an unwavering sense of compassion for those around him.
Matthew was the beloved son of Matthew Joseph Thompson and Mary Ellen Thompson. He was preceded in death by his cherished mother and his dear sister, Nancy Ellen Thompson.
His legacy continues through his loving spouse, Janine Collari Thompson, and their daughter, Kristina Thompson. Matthew is also survived by his devoted father, Matthew J. Thompson, his sister Maureen and her husband Glenn Hornecker, his brothers George Thompson and Michael Thompson and wife Lori Thompson, as well as his sister and brother-in-law Maureen and Frank Zaccarino. He will be deeply missed by his father-in-law Richard Collari and his many nieces and nephews: Courtney, Morgan, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Brad, and Anthony.
A proud graduate of Parsippany High School, Matthew's zest for life was evident in everything he did. He had a passion for traveling with his family, creating cherished memories in places like Spain, Gettysburg, Hawaii, Disney, St. Martin, and on various cruises. His love for sports was well-known, particularly his loyalty to the NY Mets and the Oakland Raiders. Matthew also had a keen interest in technology and politics, and he was dedicated to his work at Lions Service, where he made a difference in the lives of many.
Matthew moved to Parsippany NJ in 1973 and then to Charlotte NC in January 2018.
Matthew was known for his remarkable sense of humor and his ability to bring joy to those around him. He possessed a deep compassion for the sick, often providing support and encouragement to those in need. His courageous spirit and bravery in the face of challenges were an inspiration to all who knew him. Above all, Matthew cherished his family and friendships, demonstrating an extraordinary ability to adapt to change while always valuing the connections he made throughout his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial to honor Matthew's life will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 1pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte.
