Michael A. “Murph” Murphy, 74 passed away peacefully at home on January 30, 2017, with his wife and daughter by his side . He was born on September 5, 1942 in Syracuse, NY and moved to Charlotte, NC with his wife 23 years ago. He worked for the City of Charlotte as a backflow inspector.
Murph loved celebrating his Irish heritage. He was the first one to donate his time or money when a cause presented itself. He spent most of his time with his “partner in crime”, Butch. Their shenanigans usually started with a cocktail and a bet on a game.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Murphy of Syracuse, NY and his sister, Patricia O’Connell of Worcester, MA. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Close, his children, Kimberly (Brian) Beeman, Sean Murphy, Derek Murphy, his grandchildren, Kristina Beeman, Briana Beeman and Jonathan Murphy, all from Syracuse, NY and his wife’s children, Kristy (Brian) Madison, William Close, Jr., her grandchildren, Addison Close, Paige Madison and Bennett Madison, all from Jamestown, NY.
Services will be privately held in NY this Summer. We welcome friends and family to join us in a “Celebration of Murph’s Life”, this Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Nelson’s, 221A E. Exmore Street, Charlotte, NC 28217 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
