Huppy Snyder was born on May 23, 1912 at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina and died on January 5, 2011 resting peacefully in her apartment at Southminster in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She was the daughter of Albert and Elisabeth Leslie Milmow; was married to Edward Esson McCanless and George Chrisman Snyder, both of whom predeceased her; was the mother of Leslie McCanless Hunter and Katy McCanless Underwood both of whom also predeceased her; is the grandmother of Joseph L. Hunter, Jr, of Lake Wylie, SC, William E. Underwood, III, of Atlanta, GA and Karen Underwood Hammes, of Raleigh, NC; and is the great grandmother of Katy Grace Underwood, William Emmett Underwood, IV, David James Underwood, Logan Janson Hunter, Brenna McCanless Hunter, and Heyward McCanless Hammes. She also had close family relationships with George C. Snyder, Jr., Christine Snyder Wellons, J. Luther Snyder II, William E. Underwood, Jr., Judith J. Underwood, Lynn Gardner Thompson and Ann St. Clair Hagler.
Huppy was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church and the Charlotte Country Club. She moved to Southminster in 1994 and during her years there enjoyed many wonderful friendships with other residents. Her participation in the after dinner men’s poker game, line dancing and the “Huhs” are just a few of the experiences she treasured. She was in failing health for some time and was the recipient of loving and sustaining care from Kay Grier, Nilza Pappas and Ginger Harris. She also was ably served by Caesar Wallace to whom she was affectionately known as “Miss Daisy”.
She lived a rich, full life and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and devoted friend. She will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011 in the Sanctuary at Myers Park Methodist Church. The family will greet friends in Jubilee Hall following the service. There will also be a reception to celebrate her life with Southminster friends and their families from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9 at Southminster.
Memorials may be made to Southminster Foundation, Myers Park Methodist Church or the organization of your choice that supports efforts to assist autistic children and their families.
