

Betty, age 81, formerly of Thomasville, GA, passed away September 15, 2012, at her residence at Summit Place surrounded by her family. She was born May 2, 1931, in Charlotte, NC, to Nan and Marshall McCoy. Betty attended Erskine College and graduated from what was then Women's College of the University of North Carolina. On November 28, 1953, Betty married George Robert "Bobby" Culp at Sardis Presbyterian Church. In 1956, Bobby and Betty moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where they began their family. A career move took them to Thomasville, GA, where they lived for 47 years and raised their family. Betty worked in the Thomasville City School System as a First Grade and Physical Education teacher until her retirement in 1992. She and Bobby were devoted members of First Baptist Church of Thomasville, GA. In August 2011, Bobby and Betty moved back home to Charlotte. In addition to her beloved husband of 58 years, Betty is survived by her son Jeff and his wife Kathryn, daughter Nancy and her special friend Cynthia. Betty is survived by four grandchildren Kirby, Blake, Mary and Sarah. Also surviving Betty are her sisters-in-law Bettie McCoy, Fran McCoy, and Mary McCoy, and numerous nephews and nieces. Betty is predeceased by her parents and her four brothers, John McCoy, Bob McCoy, Wayne McCoy, and Bill McCoy. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Summit Place and the caregivers of Hospice who have surrounded Betty and Bobby with extraordinary love and kindness. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 19, 2012, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm in the chapel at McEwen followed by graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte, 1420 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204, in memory of Elizabeth, would be greatly appreciated.
