Monica Rose Popp

Monica Rose Popp, 68, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, March 13th, 2025, at Waltonwood Senior Living Memory Care. Her ashes will remain with the family to be scattered according to her wishes.

Monica was born on November 25th, 1956, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Buckley States and Rosa (Williams) States. In 1983 she graduated from Platte Valley Bible College with her Bachelors of Science Degree. She was united in marriage to Randy Popp on April 18, 1982, in Holdrege Nebraska. Monica lived in Scottsbluff with her husband Randy and children Duane and Janet until Randy’s job with Tri-State Generation and Transmission took them to Grand County, Colorado. She later moved to Littleton, Colorado, then to Benicia, California with her daughter, Janet in 2020, and finally to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2024. This final move allowed her to be near both of her children.

Monica did volunteer work with the PTA, coached some of her children's sports teams and taught Sunday school and youth group at her local church. Monica worked as a Library Substitute for many years before retiring. She was well loved by all who knew her. Her favorite substitute position was in the children’s library, and she shared her passion and love of books with her children and grandchildren.

Monica brought a smile to those around her and all who were close to her knew how much she genuinely cared about them. Monica always had something to give to help others in whatever way she could. She was a woman of God and strived to live her life so that others could see her strong faith. Monica enjoyed reading, walking, listening to music and spending time with her family and friends who she loved so well.

Survivors include her children: Duane Popp of Charlotte, NC; Janet (Popp) Heinrichs, husband Ben Heinrichs, and their children, Rylan, Gracee, and Nathyn Heinrichs, of Waxhaw, NC. She is also survived by her brother, John States, and his wife, Penny (Derby) States, of Stella, NE, her sister, Mellonie States, of Scottsbluff, NE; her nieces, Donell (States) Clarke of Knoxville, Iowa, and Cherokee (States) Gribble and her husband, Matthew Gribble, of Scottsbluff, NE; and her nephew, Jedidiah States, and his wife, Melissa (Topil) States, of Columbus, NE, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Popp, and her parents, Buckley States and Rosa (Williams) States.

Memorials may be given in her honor to Foster Village Charlotte or the Alzheimer's Association.
