Nancy was born August 25, 1932, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Thomas Dwight Morgan and Lola Exita Morgan. Nancy was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a very strong and independent woman of faith. She lived her life anchored in her love of God, and her family, always putting others before herself with a quiet strength, and grace.
From a young age, she found joy in people and music and was a talented pianist throughout her life, playing for her children most evenings as they went to sleep - a very fond memory. She also had a deep love for reading and words - a gift she used to express her thoughts with wisdom and wit. Her natural sense of humor and quick, clever remarks were a constant source of laughter to those around her. All who knew her benefitted from her wisdom, insight, and gentle guidance, although regarding her children, the guidance was not always gentle! Nancy was an active member of Providence Baptist Church on Randolph Road in Charlotte, serving faithfully in different roles and committees. Nancy was known to her children and husband as someone who “collected people”, who then became family.
Nancy was married to Buddy Bickers Bennight, (12/29/1932 - 6/1/2024) for almost 74 years. Together, they built a home centered on faith, laughter, unconditional love and many memorable experiences in life traveling the world while in the United States Air Force. They shared a quiet generosity, often supporting causes and individuals in need, always preferring to give without recognition. Their acts of kindness, though often unseen, made a lasting impact on many lives.
Nancy and Buddy believed and lived Micah 6:8.
Nancy is survived by her children, Mark Alan Bennight (Kathryn), Carol Bennight Arant (David) and Bryan Thomas Bennight (Jane), 13 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, and her only sibling.
Though words cannot fully capture the depth of her spirit, those who knew her will never forget her strength, her humor, and the warmth of her love. She will be laid to rest next to her Husband in a private graveside service.
A celebration service of Nancy and Buddy’s life will be held on Monday, August 18, at Providence Baptist Church, 11:00 am, immediately followed by visitation with the family and a light reception.
