

Charlotte, NC-Nila Kannan, 23, passed away Saturday August 6, 2016 at her residence. Born in Long Island, NY on March 2, 1993, she is the daughter of Kannan Adimoolam and Tamilarasi Kannan. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Ashok Kannan, her maternal grandfather, Tholkappian Raghavan of Chennai, India; ten loving aunts & uncles and eleven cousins from MI, CA, NY, MA and India. Nila was exceptionally giving, unmatched in her humility, compassion, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Nila valued volunteering, beginning at a young age, as an enthusiastic member of the Girl Scouts of America. She was passionate about music, a lover of a variety of genres, and a talented student of the piano and cello. Nila was an avid tennis player as well. At Cannon School, she was the president of the Diversity Club, an experience she cherished. Nila appreciated the beauty of languages, earning a degree in linguistics from Boston University. She was a founding member and secretary of the Queen City Harry Potter Alliance, a ‘Fandom-based volunteering and activism’ charity organization. She had a positive impact on those around her and truly adored her pet cat, Frankie.
Friends may visit Saturday August 13, 2016 at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28269 where the family will be present from 12 to 2 pm.
