

He graduated from Clemson University, Class of 1935, with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Tindal was employed as a lighting engineer and assigned to the Greenville, SC district of Duke Power Co. where he was later transferred to Charlotte, NC.
Mr. Tindal was called into active duty with the Army Ordnance Department in 1941 and assigned to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, MD. He was released from active duty in January 1946 with the rank of Lt. Colonel and returned to Duke Power Co. in Charlotte. After resigning from Duke Power Co. in 1950 he became a manufacturer’s agent and founded Norman Tindal Co., Inc. with offices in Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh. In 1984 he sold his business and retired.
Mr. Tindal was a member of Myers Park Baptist Church, Charlotte City Club, Myers Park Country Club, Charlotte Engineers Club, the Illuminating Engineering Society and Clemson Alumni Association.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Edith M. Tindal; daughter, Leslie Bechtold; son, Norman E. Tindal, Jr.; grandson, Forrest Bechtold and wife Megan; and granddaughter, Blair Bechtold Smith and husband Billy of Charlotte. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Tindal was predeceased by his brothers, George Tindal, Tallahassee, FL, Robert T. Tindal, Columbia, SC, Henry F. Tindal, Pinewood, SC and sisters, Elizabeth T. Harvey of Bowling Green, KY and May T. Sanders, Charleston, SC.
A memorial service honoring Mr. Tindal will be held at Myers Park Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 9th, with the Reverend Joseph Aldrich officiating. The family of Mr. Tindal will receive friends immediately following the service. Private inurnment will be in the church columbarium.
