

Patricia Gretchen Fisher passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2026, at Matthews Glen Retirement Community in Matthews, NC. Patricia “Pat” was born in Cramerton on December 12, 1937, to Phronia and Herbert “Hub” Fisher. She attended Central High School and received her undergraduate degree at Women’s College in Greensboro and her master’s in education from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. She spent most of her life in Charlotte. Pat taught third and fourth grade at Rama Road and Merry Oaks Elementary Schools. She retired in 1991.
Pat developed perseverance as a child during World War II, when her mother worked full-time in a textile mill and her father was stationed in Europe. During those difficult times Pat formed deep religious beliefs and a devotion to her extended family.
Pat attended Spencer Memorial Methodist Church and later Saint Stephen United Methodist Church. She was always a faithful steward, participating in various aspects of church life including the choir. Pat was led by her commitment to church and family.
Pat was an avid reader and quite the Bible scholar. She was a prolific writer and a published poet. There were always grand discussions when she was around! She was always willing to try new things and meet new people. All who encountered Pat remember her loving spirit and her willingness to help with anything. She was an accomplished piano player.
Pat is survived by her nephew Jim Fisher and his wife Adrienne and their children Ian and Zoe of Mint Hill; her niece Cindy Fisher of Charlotte and her son Alex Carter of Birmingham, AL; and Linda Fisher and her son Ben and his son Ethan of Crystal Springs, MS. She is preceded in death by her brother Herb Fisher and his wife Carolyn of Locust, NC and her nephew Ed Fisher and his son Matt of Crystal Springs, MS.
Pat Fisher was a joy.
There will be a service at Matthews Glen Retirement Community Chapel, 733 Pavilion View Drive, Matthews, NC 28105 on Saturday, March 7th at 2 PM. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the service to pass through security and locate parking.
Following the service there will be a reception with hors d'oeuvres to fellowship with Patricia's family and friends.
