CHARLOTTE – Surrounded by her loving family, Patricia “Pat” Beck Hasty passed away peacefully Sunday morning, December 17, 2017 at Sharon Towers Retirement Community. Pat was born in Charlotte on October 22, 1930 to the late Henry and Minnie Kennington Beck, and had one sister, the late Paulette “Scooty” Beck Ellison.
She was married to her childhood sweetheart, the late Richard E. “Buddy” Hasty, for 64 years, 40 of which were spent living in Goldsboro, NC. There she was active in the First Presbyterian Church, serving as church hostess and wedding director for many years. She was a master bridge player, as well as a master gardener, yet she still considered her greatest accomplishment to be her family.
She is survived by her five children: Cynthia Hasty Umstead of Townsville, NC (husband Randy and children Jeff Westbrook, David Westbrook); Rick Hasty of Charlotte (wife Sheree and children Taylor, Waverly, Stewart); Sharon Hasty Graper of Charlotte (husband Dr. Robert Graper and children Gordy, Christopher, Elizabeth); Patty Hasty Marsh of Smithfield, NC (husband Rev. William Marsh and children Will, Ben, Anna Scott); and Dr. Chris Hasty of Greenville, NC (wife Missy and children Clark, Mary Frances, Caroline). Not only was she a great blessing to her children and 14 grandchildren, but also, more recently, to her 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 13 in the Chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (http://act.alz.org) or to Sharon Towers (www.sharontowers.org).
