Patsy was born in Lumberton, NC on August 4, 1936 to John Stephens and Viola “Vidy” Kinlaw Stephens. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Stephens and John Stephens. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Virgil H. White; twin daughters, Pamela Dowless and Patricia Dowless; brother, David Stephens (Donna); five grandchildren: Michael Porter, Daniel Porter, Elise Porter Smith (Ross), Patrick Turner, and Taylor Turner; one great-granddaughter, Kinsley Smith; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Due to family moves, Patsy attended Bladenboro, Elizabethtown, and Fayetteville high schools, graduating from the latter in 1954. She was the oldest of four, with three younger brothers. This role is one of the many reasons that she was so devoted as a nurturing caretaker of others’ well-being and happiness. Patsy had a generous heart of gold. She made sure to let others know that they were loved and in her thoughts through phone calls, cards, and heartfelt gift-giving.
Patsy worked for Franklin Brown Insurance Agency as an accountant, demonstrating reliability and loyalty, working her way up to Vice President before having to retire in 1979 due to disability. Despite ongoing health problems through four decades, Patsy continued to be a determined, sweet, kind, and generous person of faith, who loved and encouraged her family through good times and bad. She was always proud to share successes, stories, and photos of her family. She looked forward to visits with them to create cherished memories. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who was beloved by her family.
