Patsy was born on November 22, 1941 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Joe Franklin and Hattie Lucille (Jackson) Garmon, both of whom are deceased. Patsy was married to Lee Roy Gardner of Charlotte, North Carolina for 65 years. Lee Roy Gardner, 84, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Patsy had lived in Davidson North Carolina, just outside Kannapolis, for 50 years (since 1974).
Patsy had been a homemaker her entire life. Being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was her calling and passion. Patsy was also known for being a motherly figure to almost everyone in her extended family. Patsy was generous, considerate, caring, and forgiving. Her family was her life. Simple things in life brought her much joy and happiness— like getting her hair done, and none more than eating out with family at the May Flower Seafood restaurant or the Red Lobster, where stuffed mushrooms were to her, pretty close to heaven. Patsy was also known for setting out a wonderful southern comfort spread of food around Thanksgiving and Christmas; anything to encourage family to come hang out with her at the house.
Patsy is also preceded in death by her grandson Matthew Pitchford and 6 of her 7 siblings, Jimmy Garmon, JoAnn Garmon Irvin, Virginia Garmon Singleton, Nancy Garmon Cunningham, JF Garmon, and Betty Garmon Moise, all from Charlotte, NC.
Patsy is survived by her daughter, Sharon Pitchford, and her son, Mark Gardner, all from Davidson, NC. Patsy was referred to by her grand and great grandchildren affectionally as Maw Maw, Grand Maw, or sometimes by Maw Maw Patsy. Her surviving five grandchildren are twins, Jarrett and Jonathan Gardner, Jonathan’s wife Amber, Jennifer Gardner, all from Davidson, NC; and Hope Jones, from Statesville, NC. Patsy has three great grandchildren, Makayla Gardner, Landon Gardner, and Emmett Roy Pitchford. Patsy’s only surviving sibling, Fred Garmon, along with his wife, Shirley, lives in Cleveland, TN.
In lieu of flowers please donate to one of Patsy’s and Lee Roy’s two favorite charities; either The Tunnel to Towers Foundation https://tunnel2towers.org/ that builds mortgage-free smart homes for our most catastrophically injured veterans, or to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/ , where families never receive a bill for anything because all they should worry about is helping their child live.
