Peter is survived by his loving daughter, Diane Reed Payne and his two grandsons, Reed and Ryan Payne. He was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Kimbell Reed, his father Peter Weber, his adoptive father Edgar Allen Reed, and his beloved wife Lucille Reed.
Peter was born on December 19, 1929 in Pass Christian, MS. He and his family lived in various cities around the country, but he experienced Chicago as his home town. Peter graduated from Carleton College with a B.S. in physics and zoology. He then earned his M.D. from the University of Virginia followed by a residency in radiology. Peter met his wife Lucille at the Parma Medical Center where they both worked. After a two year stint as an Airforce physician in Sherman, TX and some time in Parma, Ohio and King of Prussia, PA, they ultimately settled in Lima, Ohio. Peter worked in the radiology department of Lima Memorial Hospital from 1965-2000.
Peter was a quiet, reflective, deeply intelligent man. He had an inherent intellectual curiosity about life and was a life-long learner. He was small in stature and large in intellect. Peter loved to read and travel and he had an incredible breadth of knowledge on many topics. He was also extraordinarily generous, patient, and understanding. His family and friends will remember him as a brilliant, kind, and compassionate human being.
A memorial service will be held at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home in Charlotte, NC at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8th. On Saturday, February 10th, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. there will be a visitation at Siferd-Orians Funeral Home in Lima, Ohio followed by a burial service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
As a family, we want to thank all of the wonderful care workers at Sunrise on Providence for their consistently loving care of Peter. To a person, they were kind and helpful and we are immensely grateful.
