

Mr. Frye was born on August 11, 1930, in Catawba County, NC, to Jennie Turner Frye and Oscar Brenton Frye. One of eight children, Mr. Frye is preceded in death by five sisters, Nellie Hagaman, Cleo Ikerd, Margaret Hendricks, Hilda Setzer and Aldelaide Paysour, and two brothers, James Frye and George Frye.
After attending Balls Creek High School and Appalachian State University, Mr. Frye was employed for 35 years by J.A. Jones Construction Company and its subsidiary Metric Construction. Prior to his retirement in 1990, Mr. Frye was Vice President of Finance and Controller of Metric. During Mr. Frye’s employment, he had the opportunity to travel extensively and formed many lifelong friendships with fellow employees, which he treasured greatly.
After retirement, Mr. Frye enjoyed growing flowers, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. One of his favorite activities during his retirement years was helping his son with his lawn care business. He could frequently be seen mowing yards around the Coulwood area well into his 80s.
During his early years of marriage, Mr. Frye was a resident of Newton, NC, and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Startown. After moving to Charlotte, Mr. Frye became a member of A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, where he served as Council member and Treasurer for many years.
Mr. Frye was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Mozelle Teague Frye. He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Frye Rozzelle (husband Rick), son, Randy Frye (wife Janice) and three grandchildren, Richard (Ritchie) Franklin Rozzelle V (wife Jennifer), April Rozzelle Woolford (husband Dustin) and Courtney Tilley. “Daddy Frye”, as he was lovingly known, is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Noah, Amelia, Isaac, Daniel and Eli. Mr. Frye’s many nieces, nephews and their children were dear to him and he always enjoyed sharing his sense of humor with them through stories of his childhood antics.
One of Mr. Frye’s greatest joys in his later life was his special relationship with Wanda Allen. Their 14 years together was precious to him and she was an exceptional comfort and support during his final illness. He was also sincerely appreciative for the love and acts of kindness shared with him by her daughters and their families.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Frye at 2pm on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, Charlotte, with the Rev. John Petry officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm at the church prior to the service.
Following the memorial service, a graveside service will be held at St. Paul Memorial Park in Startown on Highway 10, Newton, NC, at 4:00pm.
