A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212. Inurnment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
Phyllis was born June 27, 1937 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Earl Preston and Hazel Ellis Roland. She was a member at Calvary Baptist Church of Winston Salem where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed singing and absolutely loved playing the piano. Phyllis was also at one time the Worthy Matron of the Derita Chapter of the Eastern Stars. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and loved caring for and sitting with the elderly.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband William Lewis Modlin; one son Donald Ray Basham and long time companion Johnny Jamison. She is survived by her daughters; Beth Hanson (Dustin), Cathy Palmer (Blair); grandchildren; Cristin Brandt (John), Jonathon Kirby (Erika), Erica Basham, J.P. Basham; 5 great grandchildren; daughter in law; Soon Bang Seo and husband Timothy Griner.
