

Mr. Delano, 90, of Charlotte, NC, passed away early on May 16, 2012. He was born on August 7, 1921 in Indianapolis, IN, a son of the late Cecil Lee and Dorothy Faye Atkins Delano, and beloved husband to the late Doris E. Delano.
Richard was a 1939 graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. He worked his whole life as an electrician, being very proud that he was a 70 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. His hobby was Ham Radio, where he was an enthusiastic operator.
After his retirement, he and his wife Doris moved to Anderson, SC where they enjoyed square dancing and trips to the beach. They participated extensively in the Anderson College Senior Follies productions. They then moved to Charlotte in 2000.
Richard loved his family, his friends at the Jewish Community Center, and his parish community at St. Peter Catholic Church. His 90th birthday party last August at the Village Tavern was a testament to his joy in life.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Delano and husband, William Miller, and son, Timothy Delano, all of Charlotte.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 507 South Tryon St., Charlotte, with Reverend Pat Earl, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte.
