
Mr. Collins, age 79, of Charlotte, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at home surrounded by his family. Born May 3, 1932 in Sanford, NC, Bob was a son of the late Robert Caviness Collins, Sr. and Lily Charles Collins. Mr. Collins served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church. Bob was a hard-working man who loved his family.
The service to celebrate the life of Robert “Bob” Caviness Collins, Jr. will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service - Derita Chapel with his son-in-law, Barry Cheek, officiating. Interment will follow in Northlake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie “Poochie” Coley Collins. Bob and Jackie renewed their wedding vows on their 48th anniversary, November 3rd. Additional survivors include children, Mary Ann Dillow (Duane) Thomas Caviness Collins (Chaniese) Leona Collins Cheek (Barry) and Mary Parker; a brother, four sisters, eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; five children from a previous marriage, Anthony Wayne, Kay, Sue, Robert and Jeffrey; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and beloved dogs he called his babies.
