Roy Murlyn Smith

A native of Scottsville, Kentucky, Mr. Smith was born to the late Roy Bandy Smith and Amanda Daisy Devine Smith on February 17, 1928. He attended college at Bowling Green Business University from 1946 to 1947 and his first job was with the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway - NC & S&L in 1947. Mr. Smith moved to Charlotte in 1966 with the L&N Railway and after mergers retired from the CSX Railway in January 1989. After retirement he became very involved in many genealogy societies, serving as treasurer for several including The Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia. Mr. Smith also enjoyed growing roses and making flower arrangements. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie L. Smith in 2016 and sister, Wanda Faye Read in 1997.

Mr. Smith is survived by his children; Lisa Harmon (Bill), Bryan Smith (Susan); brother, David C. Smith; grandchildren, Robert Lloyd (Natalie), Katie Lloyd (Matthew Hobson), Chandler Smith; great-grandchildren, Levi Lloyd, Phoebe Lloyd, Asher Lloyd, Isaac Lloyd. His family wishes to extend special thanks to his caregiver, Rhae Johnson.
