Daughter of James Britt Atkins and Ina Mae Horne Atkins, Ruby was born in Mercy Hospital in Charlotte.
First and foremost, Ruby loved Jesus. Her favorite song was “Jesus Loves Me”. She loved going to church and participating in as many things there as she could. She was always witnessing about Jesus to those who would listen and she knew exactly what she believed.
Ruby’s second love was Jonah D. Love, Jr. They were truly soul mates for life. Shopping was one of her favorite things to do – whether it was a flea market or PetSmart or anything in between. She really knew how to spend money.
Her pets were important to Ruby – mostly cats and dogs. One of her favorite foods was KFC drumsticks. She was always wanted to be on the go whether it was a day trip someplace or vacation to Aunt Carra’s.
Ruby loved her family, especially her Mama. They had such a strong bond. Bowling, dancing to Elvis songs and listening to gospel music were some of her fun things to do. Ruby loved taking pictures and camcording everything.
In her life, Ruby had a multitude of friends. She never held a grudge; was always forgiving no matter what. Christmas was always exciting and she just had to buy gifts for everyone she knew.
Ruby was a survivor. No matter what life threw at her she found a way to overcome and just keep having faith it would all work out if she prayed.
Left to mourn her loss are her family members – Hazel L. Atkins, Evelyn (Penny) Robinson Atkins, John Robinson, Andy Robinson, Dootsey Drye, Kathy Thompson, Sonny Thompson and Helen McClain and many family members and friends.
Ruby is preceded in death by her parents James Britt Atkins and Ina Mae Horne Atkins and the love of her life Jonah D. Love, Jr.
A funeral service is planned for Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 2pm at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte. The family will greet friends starting at 12:30pm. Burial immediately following the service at Sharon Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ruby's name to Samaritan's Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org).
