Ruby met Melvin, her late husband of 60 years, in 1945 working in a cotton mill, and after a whirlwind courtship married him in 1946. In 1947, they welcomed the light of their lives, their only child, Brenda.
Ruby had a number of wonderful adventures, many of which included traveling the world. Ruby spent many years at the wheel of an RV, traveling the US, including threading the “Eye of Needle” and driving the then unpaved Alaskan Highway. Through the years Ruby was privileged to serve as a Group Mother and foster numerous young women, six teenaged girls at a time, as well as to hand out Bibles on the streets of China after dark, in secret.
Ruby loved most her God, her family, her church, and her friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Bradley, brothers Fred Jones, Boyd Jones, James Jones, and sister Selma Jones Bradley. She will be greatly missed by daughter Brenda Brewer, grandchildren Amy Kimbrell (Kevin) and Chad Brewer (Jessica), great-granddaughters Kat Kimbrell and Karissa Kimbrell, sister Mary Ruth Medford, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life led by Harrison Bradley will be held at McEwen Funeral Home Chapel at the Sharon Memorial Park location (5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC 28212) on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 12:30pm, followed by Visitation and Burial Service on site.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tillery Compassionate Care; 960 North First Street, Albemarle NC 28001.
