Mrs. Ruby Honeycutt Shanklin

Mrs. Shanklin, age 83, of Charlotte passed away Friday, February 18, 2011.

She was born October 24, 1927 in Albemarle, NC the daughter of the late James Silas Honeycutt and Penelope Little Honeycutt. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Leon Trover Shanklin, Jr.; daughter, Anne Shanklin Brewer; grandson, Samuel Vanderlip; and siblings, Margie Phillips, Fred Honeycutt, Myrtle Baucom Shumaker, Ella Monteith Hannigan, Winnie Mae Clawson, and Tommy Honeycutt.

Mrs. Shanklin was a true southern lady who possessed poise, integrity, wisdom and strength. Her intelligence and dependability made it easy for her family to come to her with any problem and come away with insight. She was a member of the bridge club and garden club and received numerous awards for floral arrangement contests for the Southern Christmas Show. Mrs. Shanklin was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

She graduated from Central High School in Charlotte in 1945 and attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill. During her career she worked for Coe Construction Company, Kenny Real Estate and Clawson Radiator Shop as an accountant. She and her husband were longtime members of Dilworth United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her son, Leon Trover Shanklin, III and fiancé Angela Langford of Charlotte; daughters, Carol Shanklin Vanderlip and husband Steve of Lake Wylie, SC and Jane Shanklin Harris and husband Gordon of Kannapolis, NC; son-in-law, Mike Brewer of Deland, FL; eleven grandchildren; and a niece, Roberta Craven of Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 20, 2011 at McEwen Funeral Service in Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212 with the Dr. Thomas Cabaniss officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
