Ruth Walton Jernigan

Ruth Walton Jernigan, 87, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. Born in Connellsville, PA on November 21, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. and Sadie Walton. Mrs. Jernigan was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and worked at the VA Hospital in Waco, TX as a nurse and later at the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. She married her husband of fifty four years, Rev. Julius O. Jernigan, on April 22, 1958 on Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, IL.

A graveside committal of cremains with military honors will be held at Noon, Wednesday, May 1st at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, NC with Rev. Chris Howell and Rev. Gerry Davis officiating.

Mrs. Jernigan is survived by a daughter, Carol W. Jernigan; a granddaughter, Kayla B. Jernigan; a grandson, Brandon M. Jernigan; a brother, Richard Walton; two nieces, Janet Mitcheltree, Debbie Woodard and a sister-in-law, Frances Woodard.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jernigan was preceded in death by her husband on January 2, 2013 and a son, Wesley Mark Jernigan.
