
Mr. Sam J. Franklin, Jr. of Pineville, N.C. passed away on February 10 at age 85. A grave side service will be held in his hometown of Statesboro, Georgia on February 24 at 11:00 am at the Eastside Cemetery.
Sam is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn McCray Franklin, daughters Sally Franklin and Laura Ann Crumpton, sons Sam Franklin III (Karen) and Robert Franklin (Donna), step-daughter Michelle Westlake (Paul), grandchildren Allie Fry (Zac), Sam Franklin IV, Emily Franklin and Alex Franklin, and brother Jimmy Franklin (Fay Foy).
Sam was a wonderful husband and father, devoted to his family. He offered a bright smile and warm greeting to all he met. He was also a passionate outdoorsman who was never happier than when he was hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. He also enjoyed working outdoors in his garden.
Born and raised in Statesboro Georgia, Sam graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1954 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. There he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He enjoyed a long and successful career in consumer product design and manufacturing with General Time, Singer, Electrolux and Ryobi. During that period, he lived in Athens Ga., Anderson S.C., Bristol TN, Clemson S.C., and Six Mile S.C.
During his professional career, Sam was involved in civic associations, including the Rotary Club. In retirement, Sam and Carolyn moved to Pineville, NC, to be near children.
