Sara Lou Beckham Allen

Sara Lou Beckham Allen, 83, of Charlotte, passed away on February 9, 2016 at Brookdale Concord Place. A native of Lancaster, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Howard and Maxine Bailey Beckham. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband George Milton Allen. She graduated from Heath Springs (SC) High School and was a 1954 graduate of Winthrop College. She was an elementary teacher in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System for over 30 years having taught 4th and 5th grades. She was a member of Third Presbyterian Church where she was a teacher, leader and was recognized as Elder Emeritus.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her children, Susan Allen Coley of Mt. Holly, and Thomas Craig Allen and his wife Rebekah of Concord, NC., three grandsons, Max Coley of Gastonia and Ryon and Joshua Allen of Concord. A sister, JoAnne Tyler of Birmingham, Alabama, brothers, James Beckham of Blythewood, SC and Maurice Beckham of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by other extended family.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Third Presbyterian Church in Charlotte at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Jay Weigel officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:45 PM at the church, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Third Presbyterian Church; 4019 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28205.
