Sara Mattox Allison, 78, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2017 surrounded by those she loved. She was born on August 2, 1938 in Monroe, NC, the youngest child of the late Zebulon and Minnie Mattox. She was a 1956 graduate of West Mecklenburg High School and also graduated from Queens College in Charlotte. She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Charlotte.
Mrs. Allison will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-granny. She was a lady of grace and kindness and cared more for the needs of others than that of her own and never expected anything in return. She successfully co-owned and operated with her husband, David Allison Camping Center, an RV dealership, for over 30 years while raising her three daughters and always welcomed each and every one into her home with loving arms.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 54 years, David Scott Allison; her four brothers, Joe Mattox, Ormond Mattox, John Ralph Mattox and Tom Mattox and her two sisters, Virginia Mattox Blackwell and Lib “Tee” Mattox Greene.
She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Jane Allison, Paige Allison Miller and her husband, Mark, Kelly Elizabeth Allison and David Purcell; grandchildren, Sara and husband, Thomas, Marcus, Morgan, Allison, Peyton, Zach and his fiancée, Holly, Keefe and Mac; great-grandson, David “Cruz”, great-granddaughter, Brooklyn, brother-in-law, Bob Blackwell and her beloved Aunt Ruth along with cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her wonderful, loving “adopted daughter/caregiver”, Tammy White, all of the attentive staff at Wellmore of Tega Cay and Hospice & Palliative Care Palmetto Region; whom all treated her with the upmost respect and care even during her final hours.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 12:30 at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208.
