Sara “Nancy” Black Ray, 84, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025 in Gastonia, NC. Born November 6, 1940 in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clifton B. and Rachel (Frye) Black.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Torrence B. Ray; son-in-law, Bill Ward; brothers, James Clifton and Kenneth H. Black.
Survivors include her son, Clifton (Charlotte Chambers) E. Ray; daughter, Michelle Ward; grandson, William Brett Edwards; granddaughters, Sara (Ernesto Amaranto-Perez) Nicole Ward and Brittany King; great-grandson, Ernesto Amaranto-Ward); sister, Carolyn D. Black; sister-in-law, Geraldine Black; along with several nieces and nephews and their families.
A lifelong Charlotte native, Nancy retired from BellSouth Telephone Company in 1991 after 31 years of service. She was a member of Shady Brook Baptist Church.
A visitation for Nancy will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 12:45 until 1:45 PM in the chapel of McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.
