

Sarah Nell Kerr Huffman, 89, of Charlotte, NC, died Tuesday, June 17, 2015, at WakeMed in Cary, NC. After being in failing health for several years, she moved to Wake County in 2014 so that her daughter, Phyllis Huffman Demko, and grand-daughter, Sara Kay Chapman, could attend her. Mrs. Huffman was the third oldest child of Arthur Pryde Kerr and Georgia Leila Horton Kerr. She graduated Mount Ulla High School, Mount Ulla, NC; and in 1943, she married Charlie Alexander Huffman, who pre-deceased her in 1997. Mrs. Huffman was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC. Through the years she was an excellent homemaker and mother to her daughter and only child, Phyllis. In later life she became a sales associate with Belk and worked for over ten years at Dillards, until she had to retire because of disability. She is survived by her daughter Phyllis Huffman Demko and her son-in-law, Martin Demko; by her beloved grand-daughter Sara Kay Chapman; Sara’s husband, Rob Chapman; and Sara’s two children --Rachael Elizabeth Chapman, age 12, and Alexander Ryan Chapman, age 9. Her daughter and grandchildren live in Wake County, NC.
Mrs. Huffman had six brothers and one sister: They are John Kerr, deceased; Mary Kerr Mangum, deceased; Charles Kerr, deceased; Perry Kerr, deceased; Tom Kerr, deceased; Harry Kerr, deceased. She is survived by her younger brother George Kerr of Batesburg, SC.
In addition, Mrs. Huffman is survived by a very special niece, Millicent Kerr Hoffner, whose love and attention have been especially appreciated during her last illnesses. Mrs. Huffman would want to acknowledge the love and support of her close friends: They are Margaret Swacker of Stanfield, NC, her friend of forty years; Johnny and Sue Honeycutt of Charlotte; Willis Goodrum of Charlotte; and her close friend and companion, Carole Allred, who died in 2010.
The funeral service will be held 2 p.m on Sunday, June 21, 2015 in the Charlotte Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, located at 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC, with the Rev. Don Newman officiating. Entombment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
