Sean Milo Jamieson, 60, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, April 19th, 2026, at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by family after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on November 27th, 1965, and raised in Elmhurst, Illinois, Sean was the beloved oldest son of Carol (Hattenhauer) Jamieson and the late Jerome Jamieson and the cherished grandson of the late Dr. Milo and Mildred (Johnson) Hattenhauer and the late John and Ellen (Lynch) Jamieson. He was the best big brother ever to Ellen Sandoval, Lorraine Strittmatter (Chad) and Andrew Jamieson (Beth) and beloved uncle of Samantha James (Steven), Vann and Marie Sandoval; Xavier (Sydney), Kolbe, the late Cecilia, Blaise, Jude, Amelia and Anastasia Strittmatter; and Ellie and Kate Jamieson as well as the cherished great-uncle of Stella Sandoval and Zander Sandoval. Sean was loved by many cousins, aunts and uncles. Family was everything to him.
Following his graduation from Montini Catholic High School, Sean earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism degree from Northwestern University in 1987 and a Master of Public Administration degree from Cornell University in 1994.
Sean knew he wanted to be a newspaper reporter from his earliest elementary school days. His journalism career took him to The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington, followed by The Charlotte Observer, where he was later promoted to assistant business editor. As Sean put it, he didn’t leave journalism; rather, journalism left him. Sean’s next career path was corporate communications in the financial industry with Bank of America and then TIAA.
A parishioner of St. Gabriel Catholic Church since his move to Charlotte, Sean’s involvement there included the singles group, Habitat for Humanity and being an usher. His commitment to service also led him to spend many Saturdays volunteering at the Second Harvest Food Bank. He made many friends wherever he went and enjoyed time spent with them just as much as time spent with family.
Sean was an avid world traveler and hiker and generously shared that love - and his frequent flier miles - with his nieces, nephews and siblings, treating them to spectacular trips filled with memories to last a lifetime. He was a loyal fan of his beloved Northwestern Wildcats sports teams through all of their ups and downs (mostly downs) over the years. A highlight of his fandom was cheering on his team at the Rose Bowl with his college friends. A voracious life-long reader, Sean had that rare gift of vast knowledge of both minute trivia and complex world events.
Sean will always be remembered as a humble, kind, generous and funny family member, friend and colleague who, despite his many accomplishments, did not like attention on himself and would much rather celebrate the accomplishments of others. His wit, dry sense of humor and funny observations and impersonations will be missed but never forgotten.
To celebrate Sean, please enjoy a glass of fine red wine; that was the only pretentious thing about him.
