Sim Washington Gibson Jr.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Sharon Memorial Park, with Pastor Mark Pitts officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 575 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC 28117

Sim was born December 8, 1923, in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Grace and Sim W. Gibson, Sr. He graduated from Derita High School. He proudly served his country while in the Navy. After the service he worked at Pipe Foundry for several years. Later, he owned and operated Gibson Food Store.

In his spare time he liked to garden, was on a bowling league and after retirement he enjoyed playing golf and took up dancing. Sim was a faithful member of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, Sim was preceded in death by his first wife Peggy Little Gibson; son, Gary Gibson; sisters, Mildred, Bliss, Viola, Delores, Pauline and brothers, Hassie, Harold and Dan. He is survived by his wife Willie H. Gibson of Mooresville and his daughter, Gail Gibson of Charlotte. Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.
