Steve Alexander Case, of Indian Trial, NC, formerly of Florence, SC, passed away peacefully in Morristown, NJ on January 21, 2023. He was born January 15, 1945 in Charlotte, NC and was raised by his parents, the late Dock Clarence Case and Helen Cole Case, in Columbia, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Charles Monroe Case (Frances), Dock Sumpter Case (Mary), and Douglas Cole Case, Sr (Elaine). He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Hux) Case, his daughter, Jennifer (Case) Ball, her husband Bryan Edward Ball, and his granddaughter Raleigh Casen Ball of Chester NJ along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Growing up the youngest of four brothers, Steve is remembered for playing pranks like, tying his brother’s feet to the bed while waiting in the wings for him to wake up. Steve was a Boy Scout in his youth and almost reached Eagle Scout. The impediment was that he discovered dating and decided to focus on that instead. He spoke fondly of biking with his friends to Lake Murray with only a sandwich in tow. For a few years, he was a scuba diver but ended this hobby when the movie Jaws was released.
Steve graduated from Columbia High School and earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Palmer College of Business in Columbia, SC.
He met the love of his life, Debbie Hux, at a campground store in Myrtle Beach, SC. He told how she was standing in front of him in line and she turned and looked at him and he immediately fell in love with her and knew he would marry her. It took more convincing for Debbie, but they had a happy 56-year marriage because of his persistence.
Steve served in the US Navy as a Yeoman Second Class and was stationed at the NATO base in Naples, Italy followed by sea deployment from the naval base in San Diego. He was a patriot his whole life and was committed to his country.
He worked in several areas, most notably as owner and operator of Case Produce in Fayetteville, NC; Sales and Management for Frito Lay in Charlotte NC and Florence, SC; Church Administrator of Christian Assembly Church in Florence, SC followed by a final career at S&D Coffee in Charlotte, NC.
Steve was committed to his church and served several years on the church board as a Deacon at Christian Assembly Church in Florence, SC and Trinity Fellowship in Matthews, NC. He was widely known for his quiet leadership and how he lived by example. He led and organized several youth camping trips and senior outings to the NC mountains and the Dixie Stampede.
He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his adventurous spirit, and his “no-worries” disposition. Family was a priority for Steve and one of his greatest joys was his granddaughter. We will always remember Steve’s enthusiastic fist pump upon finding out the due date of his first, and only grandchild. He loved gardening (especially growing tomatoes), fishing, visiting the Appalachian Mountains, and the North and South Carolina beaches.
Steve will be remembered for how he provided to others through simple and quiet measures that resulted in great impacts in the lives of those who knew him.
