

Born August 18, 1936 in Harrisburg, NC, Sue was the daughter of the late Ethel Westmoreland and Walter "Walt" Gray Arrington. Following graduation from Harrisburg High School, she was a homemaker, mother, and Sunday school teacher. Sue began her career working for NCNB. She then became a realtor and later a nurse.
Sue loved dancing, blue Caribbean water, sewing and making dresses for her daughters. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling the world.
She is survived by her three children, Victoria DeBord and husband, William, of Abington, Virginia; Kelly Russell and husband, Tim, of Locust, NC; and James D. Bryant and wife, Stephanie, of Waxhaw, NC; her sister, Stacia A. Johnson; and six grandchildren, Avril Vermunt, David Balfrey, Matthew Balfrey, Jennifer Perkins, Mitchell Russell, and James Bryant; as well as four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Risley Barden, COL., USAF, and a sister, Shirley Arrington Briles.
A service to celebrate Sue’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11th in Harry & Bryant’s “Chapel in the Oaks”, 500 Providence Road in Charlotte. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Sue will be interred beside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
