

Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister whose life was defined by devotion to her family and a passion for teaching others. She dedicated many years to educating high school students before retiring, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives.
She was known for her infectious smile that could light up any room she entered and had a genuine gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. Her warmth, curiosity, and selflessness were felt by all who knew her.
An avid tennis player, runner, and aerobics instructor, Susan embraced an active lifestyle and found great joy in sharing these passions with her sons. Her energy, encouragement, and love of competition were hallmarks of her spirit, and she inspired those around her to live fully and stay active.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dennis O’Connor; her sons, Kevin O’Connor (Heather) and Trent O’Connor (Carrie); her beloved grandsons, Logan and Brady; and her sisters, Janet Grier (Eddie) and Nancy Baucom (Alan). She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Parrish, and her mother, Sybil Parrish.
Susan found comfort and strength in her relationship with God, and her family takes peace in knowing she is now resting in His eternal care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service – Pineville, located at 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Words in remembrance of Susan will be shared beginning at 2:00 p.m.
A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. for her immediate family at Oakwood Cemetery, 114 N. Oakwood Drive, Statesville, NC 28677.
There will be a celebration of life scheduled in the next month for her friends in Richmond, VA to attend, details to follow.
Susan will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she cherished.
