Susan Hill Sharpe

Susan Hill Sharpe, 89, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018. She was born in Wilmington, NC on August 14, 1928 to Joseph Averna and Isla Sikes Hill. Though Charlotte was her home for almost 70 years, she always loved going back to the beach.

Susan has spent her life serving others. She retired from working for many years for NC Services for the Blind. She was always very active in her churches, St. John’s United Methodist and Commonwealth United Methodist. Most recently she has been a faithful attendee of services provided by Jeff Andler Ministries at Brookdale Charlotte East.

Since moving to Brookdale in 2002, Susan was very instrumental in having the facility and grounds certified as a wildlife habitat. Also, for 10 years she coordinated and led a well loved support group for residents with vision impairments.

Susan was the family historian. She loved writing down memories of her family’s history and sharing the stories with anyone who wanted to listen.

Susan was preceded in death by Albert Sharpe, her beloved husband of 59 years. She is survived by her 3 children, Joe, Rebecca and Karen and by 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held on Sunday February 11 at 2:00 PM at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 – 2:00 on Sunday afternoon prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park
