He was born on the 25th of July, 1956 in Charlotte to the late Ted Howard Biggers Sr. and Alice Brooks Biggers. As a true Charlotte native, Tom grew up in the Ashley Park neighborhood. As a young boy, he attended Ashley Park Elementary School followed by Spaugh Junior High, and as a teenager, he attended Harding High School where he graduated with the class of 1974.
In 1986, Tom married the love of his life, Cathy. He loved her dearly, and they quickly became constant companions, always happiest spending time with each other. Together, they were members at Christ Presbyterian Church, and in recent years they also attended Calvary Baptist Church, both in Charlotte.
As a young adult, Tom began working in the automotive industry and it quickly became a true passion of his; he was fortunate to have had many experienced mentors while he learned the tricks of the trade, but he was proud to have gained most of his knowledge from his father. He was skilled in automotive restoration and repair. He opened and successfully ran his own business, Tom Biggers Auto Repair, for many years.
In 2007, Tom made a career change and began working as Head of Security and in the Facility Management office at Queens Grant High School in Mint Hill, where he remained a dedicated employee for 13 years.
Though much of Tom’s time was spent working on other peoples’ cars, Tom always found time to tackle his own projects too. One of his favorite hobbies was restoring and driving his classic muscle cars, which he enjoyed up until the very end of his life.
As an aviation enthusiast as well, Tom loved all things planes, trains, and automobiles. He was also a big fan of country music, and particularly an Elvis fanatic, as well as a talented artist, impressing people from a young age with his detailed and beautiful illustrations.
When it came to food, one of Tom’s favorite pastimes was socializing over a good meal, especially barbecue. He would travel far and wide without a second thought if it meant getting to eat some delicious Carolina barbecue.
Easygoing as can be, Tom also had a wonderful sense of humor. He always knew how to cheer someone up or make them laugh just when they needed it. He loved all of God’s creatures, notably cats and dogs, but his biggest love of all was his family, who are going to miss him dearly.
Those left to remember Tom include his loving wife of 36 years, Cathy Biggers; his brother, Ted Biggers Jr. and his wife, Liz; his nieces and nephews, Paul Whitlock, Alexis Baker, Alice Tejeda, and Ted Howard III; his mother-in-law, Gloria Guzman; his brother-in-law, Michael Lewis; as well as numerous other loving family members and friends.
Tom has been reunited in Heaven with his parents, Ted and Alice Biggers, his sisters, Rebecca Biggers Lewis and Nancy Biggers Whitlock, his stepson Michael Guzman and his father-in-law Vince Guzman.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00am until 11:30am on Saturday, the 7th of May, 2022 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 2461 Arty Avenue in Charlotte. The memorial service is to be conducted at 11:30am, following the visitation, at Christ Presbyterian Church, where Pastor Rodger Sellers and Rev. Tony Harper are to officiate.
