He was the loving husband of Lois (deceased) for 53 years; father of Margaret (Mark), Anita (Ricky) and Joseph; grandfather to Heather, Steven (Jennifer) and family friend Lindsey; great-grandfather to Erika, Rose and Skyler.
Tom was raised in Mills Home in Thomasville, NC with many adopted brothers and sisters. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, graduated from Gunnery School and was an aerial gunner earning the rank of Corporal. He received the American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal for his service.
He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Tom had a great love of the mountains where he enjoyed camping with wife and going to folk music gatherings. He also had a passion for good food ~ especially chocolate cake and ice cream.
The family will greet friends during the visitation on Thursday, December 3 from 6-8pm at McEwen Funeral Service located at 5716 Monroe Road in Charlotte.
Funeral service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church located at 1000 East Morehead Street on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 1pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
