Born and raised in NYC, he attended college there and began his career in textile sales, eventually relocating to Charlotte with the love of his life and wife of 66 years, “Jeannie”, until she passed away in 2016. As the textile business changed, Walter started over and began a new career as a stockbroker, retiring as Senior Vice President and Investment Officer with Wachovia Securities. He has been a member of Temple Beth El since his arrival in Charlotte 64 years ago.
He is survived by his daughter Robin of Charlotte; daughter Susan (Steve) of Harrisburg, NC; and nephew Andrew (Leora) of Great Neck, NY.
In addition to his wife Jean, Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Bella and Robert Finkelstein; brother Ronald; nephew David; and sister-in-law, Gilda.
The family would like to thank the entire Hospice & Palliative Care team of Charlotte for their kind and compassionate care, and especially his primary nurse Vicki. Also, many thanks to his caregivers, Thommia and Kerry.
Due to the pandemic, a private graveside family service was held on Friday, March 19th at the Hebrew Cemetery of Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region (hpccr.org/giving); Temple Beth El (templebethel.org); or PBS (pbsnc.org).
