

Wanda May Waterman Haines passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 12 , 2011. She was at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, NC following a rapid decline in health.
Mrs. Haines was the daughter of the late Christian and Emma Hause Waterman. She was born on May 19, 1930 in Wannamaker, Indiana. Mrs. Haines was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church for 17 years. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a member of the St. Priscilla Circle. Mrs. Haines was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Her entire family attended the first service at Messiah where she also sang in the choir, was an Altar Guild member and a member of the Lutheran Braille Workers branch. Mrs. Haines loved God, her family and her friends. She felt God gave her the talent of being a good listener. People would call her to pray for them and share their problems.
Mrs. Haines loved gardening, walking, boating and reading. She married the love of her life, the late Charles Boyd Haines in June, 1957. Wanda developed a love of motorcycling with her husband and enjoyed telling others how she went on her first date with him on a motorcycle.
Mrs. Haines was preceded in death by her mother and father, husband, brothers Cecil and Lester Waterman; a sister, Armeda a nephew, Darryle Spaulding.
She is survived by her daughters Melanie Haines Weatherman (Shawn Michael) of Winston-Salem, NC and Anna Haines Denson (Joe Roland, Jr.) and a son, Charles Fredrich Haines (Melinda) of West Palm Beach, FL. Mrs. Haines was very proud of her six grandchildren Joshua Weatherman of Chapel Hill NC, Leah Weatherman of Boone, NC, Joanna and Geoffrey Denson of Charlotte, NC, Breana Haines of Tallahassee, FL and Brayden Haines of West Palm Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 8300 Providence Rd., Charlotte, NC 28277 or to the Summer Camp Kitchen Fund at Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp and Conference Center, 124 Pendry Dr., Laurel Springs, NC 28644.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Forsyth Medical Center for their care of Mrs. Haines this past month. Thank you also to the doctors and staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House for their care and support the last few days of Mrs. Haines’ life. We will be forever grateful!
There will be a reception of friends at New Philadelphia Moravian Church in Winston-Salem from 6pm - 8pm on Friday, February 18. Funeral services will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charlotte on Saturday, February 19 at 1:00 PM with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service.
