Wendi was born in 1949 in Rocky Mount, NC, to Thomas Calvin Robbins, Jr. and Sue Stancil Robbins. Her mother passed away when she was only 13. She attended Benvenue High School, where she was head cheerleader, and briefly attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC, before marrying Richard Wayne Greene, also of Rocky Mount, in 1968. Leaving college to become a mother, she gave birth to her first son, Kevin, in 1970. Being a mom was what she wanted most of all, and she had three more children (Keith, Kelly, and Kerri) over the next 11 years. She regretted never finishing college, but was very proud of all four of her children when they completed their college and advanced degrees. As a mother, she was always loving, generous, and kind. Dinner was always ready for the family in the evening and chores were assigned! She was not only Mama to her 4 kids, but also to many nieces, nephews, and her children's friends. There was always something sweet to eat in her kitchen!
She and Wayne divorced later in life and she went to work as an insurance customer service representative and team leader. She developed close friendships with her colleagues Diane, Chris, and Toni. Later in life, she also fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a grandmother. She was Grammy to 7 grandchildren, named below. She was the most loving and devoted Grammy anyone could hope for. She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and many loved ones.
Her children would like to thank the Novant Health team, especially Dr. Dipika Misra, Dr. Kimberly McCrea, and Dr. Brian Carroll, for their tireless dedication and compassion in taking care of our Mom later in life during her battle with breast cancer. And a special thank you to her loving niece, Susie Moss Fisher, who was always there for Wendi and was at her side when she passed.
Wendi is survived by her son Kevin Greene, of Charlotte, NC; her son Keith Greene and daughter-in-law Patricia, of Advance, NC; her daughter Kelly Greene Gervais and son-in-law Micheal, of Charlotte; her daughter Kerri Sue (Greene) Driscoll and son-in-law Patrick, of Huntersville; her grandchildren Calvin, Charlie, and Conrad (Keith and Pat), Gigi and Georgie (Kelly and Mike), and Franklin and Edith (Kerri and Patrick); her honorary son-in-law Brian Hipp, of Brevard, NC; her brother Bill and sister-in-law Carolyn Robbins, of Lexington, NC; her sister-in-law Elizabeth (Libba) Robbins of Rocky Mount, NC; many loving nieces and nephews, and best friend Susan Dixon of Louisburg, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving sister Niki and brother-in-law Bobby Moss, of Rocky Mount; her brother Robbie, of Rocky Mount; and her step-sister Robyn Amerson, also of Rocky Mount.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, March 19, at 1:00 pm, at Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum at 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte NC 28212. Reverend Patrick Hamrick, of First United Methodist Church in Charlotte, will be officiating. A celebration of life reception will follow at the home of Kelly and Mike in Plaza Midwood.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the North Carolina Autism Society at www.autismsociety-nc.org.
