Charlotte - Mr. Baynard, 92, died on May 7, 2015, at CMC-Main in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late John Wilkinson Baynard and Marie Girroir Baynard.
Born on September 19, 1922, Mr. Baynard was a native Charlottean. A lifelong Episcopalian, he was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. He graduated from Central High School and attended Memphis State College and the College of Charleston. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces. Mr. Baynard was a manufacturer’s representative, selling and servicing industrial batteries for most of his career, and later opened BEBCO Office Supply Company with his wife.
Mr. Baynard, known as “Pappy” by his grandchildren, will be remembered most for his love of people and sense of humor. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends; he always had a warm smile and affirming words for those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Cates Baynard; three children and their spouses: Barbara Baynard Finn and Patrick Doherty Finn of Charlotte, Elisabeth Baynard Benfield and Scott Edward Benfield of Naperville, IL, William Girroir Baynard, Jr. and Jane E. Roper Baynard of Charlotte; and six grandchildren: Patrick Doherty Finn, Jr., John William Finn, Elisabeth Amory Benfield, Edward William Benfield, William Girroir Baynard III, and Carter Chapel Baynard.
He is predeceased by his sister and three brothers: Mary Amory Baynard, John Wilkinson Baynard, Jr., Robert Parks Baynard and James Edward Baynard.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Blue Room. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery will be private.
