Bill was born Feb. 12, 1941 in Calumet, Michigan, the son of the late William H. Miller and his wife, the former Alma Tuominin. He attended Michigan Tech University where he studied electrical engineering and catalyzed a life-long passion for science and mathematics. Bill was a deep and creative thinker who read widely across subjects ranging from philosophy and literature to physics, world history and ancient languages. His favorite motto was "So many books, so little time!"
His natural curiosity about the world made Bill an avid traveler. In his late 30's he spent 18 months exploring the U.S., Canada and Mexico on his Honda motorcycle. He loved traveling to Europe with his wife Deborah, and developed an especially deep affection for the wine, food, art and people of Italy.
Bill shared with his wife a great love of animals, especially dogs, and he delighted endlessly in the antics and companionship of their two Brittany's, Andy James and Benjamin. His passions included the arts: theatre, the visual arts and music. He was a fine painter and photographer, and in his later years devoted himself to learning to play the guitar. He also loved sports, especially golf, which he never tired of watching even after he could no longer play.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah Delano of Charlotte. The constant support of his D-1 companions Gary Toman, John Gaertner, and Jack Meckler; the many lively Face Time conversations with his dear friend Fr. Vince Alagia, S.J.; and the faithfulness of the community of St. Peter's Catholic Church meant the world to him, especially in the last years of his life.
The family wishes to offer particular thanks to Dr. John (Chris) McIver at Charlotte Medical Clinic; to the compassionate caregivers at Brookdale South Charlotte; to the beautiful, highly skilled people at Sardis Oaks; and for the unstinting, sustaining support of Deborah's colleagues at Compass Group. Your love shines like the sun.
