Mr. Sturkey, 84, of Charlotte, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was born on June 21, 1929 to the late Benjamin and Maggie Sturkey. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a son, Richard F. Sturkey, four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Sturkey was employed by Celanese Corporation and Gaston County Dying Machine Company,
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Viola; a son, William C. Sturkey, Jr.; a daughter, Cynthia Stacks; and two brothers, Frank and Thomas. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 2:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to donor’s choice.
