Wolfgang (Wolf) G. Kretzschmar, 74, of Charlotte, NC, died on February 2, 2012. He was born in Geithain, Germany on August 11, 1937, a son of the late Gerhard and Hildegard Kretzschmar.
Wofgang spent his early years in the former East Germany, much of which was impactd by the devastation of WWII. After graduating from high school, he attended Forst University in East Germany, obtaining a master’s degree in textile chemistry. The day after marrying Christa Meissner in 1960, the newlyweds pulled of a dangerous escape to West Germany with little money, a suitcase, and a determination for a better life. Promotions took him from Germany to Nigeria, and finally to the United States in 1977. Wolfgang’s background continued to drive him throughout his career, where his intelligence and hard work resulted in the award of four U.S. patents, and elevation to Managing Director in Hoechst’s Specialty Chemicals business unit. He retired in 1996.
