She was born in Alberene on March 1, 1926 to Len M. Stone and Mary Etta Gentry Stone. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Gaynell S. Kidd and her husband Howard G. Kidd; brother, Harry A. Stone and his wife Louise Powell Stone; niece, Barbara Kidd Bickers and her husband Sam L. Bickers.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, John E. Holmes; stepson, Christopher Holmes of Lansing, Michigan and two step grandchildren.
She is survived by her nieces Betty Kidd Snoddy and her husband Earl B. Snoddy, and Linda Stone Price and her husband William Price, all of Albemarle County. She has great nieces and nephews, Barbara Paige Payne and husband Jeff, Albemarle County; Keith Bickers, Florence, SC; Marie Barnett and husband Steve of Faber, VA; Howard E. Snoddy and wife Patricia, Albemarle County; Thomas Snoddy of Arvonia, VA; and Heather Rogers and husband Matthew of Afton, VA. She has great-great nieces and nephews.
