Carol was born in Iowa City and lived in numerous states from coast to coast in her youth. She graduated from Wyoming High School outside of Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Virginia Tech, where she met and fell in love with her husband of 40 years, Gary. Following a short courtship, Carol and Gary were married in Ohio and established their first home in Gary’s hometown of Waynesboro, Virginia. They also embraced Community Fellowship Church in Staunton, Virginia as their first church family.
One year into their marriage, Carol served with Gary as short-term missionaries onboard the evangelical mission ship MV Logos, ministering in over 20 countries. God used the 2-year experience to change the trajectory of Carol and Gary’s lives. Subsequently, with two young children in tow, Carol and Gary moved to Columbia, SC, where Gary earned his M. Div. from Columbia International University. Upon graduation, the Lafferty family moved back to the Shenandoah Valley.
In the fall of 1992, God called the Lafferty’s to Charlottesville, Virginia, where Gary served as pastor of Alliance Bible Church for 9 years. From 2001 to present, the Lafferty’s have committed themselves to the family and ministries of Christ Community Church in Charlottesville.
During her 29 years in Central Virginia, Carol nurtured her growing family (from 2 to 7 children), served in numerous ministry roles, homeschooled her children, persistently interceded in prayer, and loved everyone that entered her world. In recent years, the Lord blessed Carol with one of her greatest desires – the gift of grandchildren: Rohan, Zaida, Oliver, Kaylee, Eliyanah, Hadassah, Kendall, Lelia and Azari.
Everyone who had the privilege to know Carol has fond memories of her. Some of the adjectives used to describe Carol are gentle, kind, selfless, compassionate, unwavering, and committed. To those who knew Carol best, she is remembered as:
a passionate worshipper of God
a steadfast believer
a devoted wife, mother, and friend
a relentless intercessor
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” Prov. 31:10
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Louis S. and Mary L. Morgal. She is survived by her husband Gary and 4 siblings, Susan Vaughan (& husband Roper), Gwen Henrich, Steve Morgal, and Paul Morgal (& wife Monica). Carol and Gary’s 7 children are Joshua Lafferty (& fiancée Ashley), Katherine Adams (& husband Franklin), David Lafferty, Josiah Lafferty, Anna Cuevas (& husband Cesar), Michelle Lafferty and Ellyce Lafferty.
