

Charles Claude Carroll, Jr. (“Charlie”) of Charlottesville, passed away at Morningside Assisted Living on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the age of 87. He was predeceased by his late wife Ruby D. Carroll in January, 2016. Charlie is survived by his daughter Cynthia Carroll Dyer of Waynesboro, and two step sons, Bill Sheldon of Washington, DC and Charles Dickerson of Waynesboro. Charlie is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Cassidy Sickmen of Lynchburg, Gracie Dyer and Lilly Hinerman of Waynesboro. Charlie was born in Charlottesville on August 1, 1929, the son of Claude Carroll, Sr. and Nadine G. Carroll. After serving in the US Army from 1951 until 1953, Charlie graduated from the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce in 1957. An avid lover of all University sports, especially UVA football and basketball, Charlie unfailingly declared at the beginning of each season that “This year is their year!” and attended as many games as possible, never wavering in his support. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2016 at the Teague Funeral Home with Chaplain Allison M. Jackson officiating.
