

Charlotte Chafin Tappin entered eternal rest on November 11, 2014 at the age of 84 in Charlottesville, VA. She was a native of Hartford, CT attending Weaver High School. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1995. Charlotte loved music, playing the organ, piano, singing, and was known for being able to sing any genre but she loved gospel music. She was a member of Zion Union Baptist Church where she played the organ and more recently she played at The Laurels for their Sunday services. Around Hartford she was a sought after musician. She was ordained as a Deacon in 2006 at Faith Congregational Church in Hartford, CT. Charlotte loved bingo, never traveling without her bingo bag. She leaves to cherish her memory grandchildren CWO4 John C. Watson Jr. and children John III, Chanielle, and Kayla of Okinawa, Japan, Jacqueline Watson-Daniel and children John, Tristan, and Loren of Palmyra, VA, Dana Scott and children Kayla and Dallas of Charlottesville, VA, Janell Lewis and children Jacquis, Trevaine, and Andre of Bloomfield, CT and Darryl Jackson (DJ) of Bloomfield, CT and Al Strothers of Windsor, CT who Charlotte regarded as a son; brothers James Chafin of Bloomfield, CT and Saul Chafin of Chicago, IL; She leaves a host of family and friends. She was predeceased by her daughters Sharon Clay Watson and Lauren A. Alston, parents James C. Chafin and Edith and Rufus Peterson, sisters, Sylvia Burr and Judith A. Walker, and brother Donald T. Chafin. Visitation will be Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road Charlottesville, VA from 11-12pm followed by a memorial home-going celebration. Rev. Lloyd A. Cosby Jr. will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Virginia Institute of Autism in her memory.
