It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of our loving husband, Dad, and Grampy, David Bryan Southard. David was born on January 26, 1959 to Mary Mae Southard (nee Taylor) and Robert Douglas Southard in Greenville, Missouri. David joined the United States Army in 1983 and served in the communications division for three years. He spent time at bases in Texas and Germany. When at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, he met his wife Cindy. Cindy and David spent almost 41 years together. David worked in the construction and communication fields. David and his family lived in New Jersey, Florida, and Virginia.
David enjoyed watching and commentating on any sport he could, especially football rooting for the Chicago Bears. He loved motorcycles and cars and could spend hours looking through Auto Trader for the perfect deal. David enjoyed listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Merle Haggard, and Charlie Daniel’s Band noting he was a “Simple Man” and a “Freebird”. David whiled away the hours perfecting his landscaping and building Legos.
But what David loved most of all was spending time with his family; wife, children and granddaughters, who brought love and light to his world.
David is survived by his wife Cynthia, his children, Sarah Marie Pulliam, Molly Mae Southard, and William Bryan Southard; his granddaughters, Amelia Ann and Charlotte Lee Pulliam. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert Southard, Bruce Southard and Ida Keele. David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles Southard.
A visitation will be held at Teague Funeral Home, Charlottesville Virginia, Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, followed by a service ending at 12:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Culpepper National Cemetery, 501 East Chandler Street, Culpepper Virginia, 22701.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in David’s name to the Augusta Regional SPCA to honor David’s love of dogs and animals or the Bob Woodruff Foundation in honor of his service to his country.
